Synopsis

Erkan (Aytac Sasmaz) is a young man from a wealthy and influential family in Istanbul. He is serving in the military in a small village in the Eastern part of Turkiye. When an earthquake hits, all soldiers are sent to help the local people, and Erkan meets a young village girl out of pure coincidence.

Dicle (Helin Kandemir) is a 20-year-old girl who lives in poverty. She has a sick mother and two elder brothers. Dicle has been raised with strict patriarchal values, with fear and oppression in this small village. She hasn’t gone to school or left her house since she was 6 years old.

Dicle is kidnapped by local gangsters who want to take advantage of the fact that her brothers are out of the village for work and all other villagers are dealing with the earthquake. Erkan witnesses this danger and wants to protect her, but he is injured while fighting against these gangsters.

Since Dicle has been kidnapped by gangsters, her brothers want to kill her to maintain family honor and social expectations. When Erkan wants to see how Dicle is doing, he learns about her brothers’ intentions. In order to protect her from her abusive family, he makes a life-changing decision and impulsively marries her.

Erkan acts responsibly and makes a huge sacrifice to save Dicle’s life. He doesn’t have any feelings for her; instead, he wants to save her from this oppressive environment and give her a new life. Therefore, their marriage will be on paper, and they won’t be a real couple.

Just after the marriage, Erkan completes his military duty. He plans to go to the United Kingdom while leaving Dicle under the protection of the government. However, Dicle doesn’t want to accept this offer and clearly mentions that she prefers to be killed instead of being separated from Erkan.

Erkan has nothing to do but to go to Istanbul together with Dicle. He thinks of staying married for a while and then, gets divorced after finding a way to save Dicle from her abusive brothers. During this period, he wants to keep this marriage a secret from everyone, including his parents.

The life of Erkan and Dicle changes all of a sudden. Dicle finds safety in Istanbul, but now, she finds herself in a completely unfamiliar world where people have different cultures, values, expectations, and worldviews. Since they don’t disclose their marriage, they pretend as if Dicle has lost her family in the earthquake and she has come to Istanbul to work. She faces hostility, prejudice, and humiliation in her new life. She tries to adapt and prove her worth while dealing with constant criticism.

Meanwhile, Erkan realizes that his marriage decision has huge consequences. He realizes that it won’t be easy to get divorced from Dicle. He finds himself in a big conflict between modern and traditional values. He tries to find a balance between his responsibilities towards his family and his responsibilities towards Dicle.

Erkan is a young man from a wealthy and influential family in Istanbul. He is very thoughtful, responsible, and respectful.

Dicle Demir (Helin Kandemir)

Dicle is an illiterate village girl who has been raised by strict patriarchal values. She does not know anything outside of her village. She is obedient, naive, and does not have any control over her own life. She considers Erkan as her hero who has saved her life.

Esat Aldur (Huseyin Avni Danyal)

Esat is Erkan’s father. He wants Erkan to get married to Burcin so that this marriage can help their family business become stronger.

Inci Aldur (Esra Ronabar)

Inci is Erkan’s mother. She is a strong woman who does some volunteer work on women’s empowerment.

Tahir Aldur (Cihat Suvarioglu)

Tahir is Erkan’s brother. As the eldest son, he wants to take control of the family business after his father. However, he does not tolerate stress, and due to his vulnerability, he is ignored by his father. Tahir wants to prove himself all the time and always feels jealous of his brother.

Nilufer is Erkan’s sister. After getting divorced, she lives with her family. Even though she wants to work and gain her independence, she finds herself under the control of her parents, particularly her mother.

Burcin Parsoglu (Elcin Zehra Irem)

Burcin has been Erkan’s girlfriend for several years. She has been in love with Erkan and dreams of getting married to him. She comes from a wealthy family, which has close relationships with Erkan’s family. She has some psychological problems. She is very fragile and even endangers her own life when faced with difficulties.
