Biography: Ugur Uzunel was born on November 12, 1988 in Izmir. His interest in acting began at an early age. He started to take part in theater plays while going to primary school. He performed at the Bilimsel Tiyatro Atolyesi for many years. He completed his undergraduate education at Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Acting. He worked as an actor at the Bornova Municipality City Theater. He also founded a theater called in’taKt with his friends. After working on short films, he acted in the movies Kumdan Kale, Ferahfeza, Handwriting and Strangers in the House. His first leading role was in 2012 in the film Ferahfeza. His first experience in a television series was in 2012 by acting the character of ‘Kurd Mehmet’ in the Agir Roman Yeni Dunya.

From the interview with Ugur Uzunel

Do you prioritize certain genres as actors?

No. What matters to me is the role itself. I want to play roles that I can distinguish in my own way. In Ask and Mavi (Love and Hate), I played a lame and very naïve person while in The Circle (Halka), I played a human smuggler. As a player, I want to try and search for different characters. When I get older, I want to see that I’ve tried a lot of different roles.

Do you have a moment in your acting life that impressed you a lot and that you cannot forget?

I have not one, but a thousand memories. There are so many things that I’m very impressed with. I don’t know which one to tell. I think it was 2011 at the Izmir Bornova Municipality City Theater, I was acting in a play called İşgüzar Bir Tekerrür written by Aslı Ceren Bozatlı. Our director was Ant Aksan. There was a long scene that I played alone, I was asking a question and then waiting for a while and answering my question. A person from the audience took my question very seriously and gave me a great answer out loud. The rest of the audience burst out laughing. Normally, I don’t get angry easily on stage, I don’t laugh right away. But I laughed too, so I couldn’t help myself. We started laughing with the audience. Then I played the rest of the scene with the audience who answered me. As if I was answering him, as if I was asking him, as if I was trying to tell him my problem. When the light went off, we got a nice round of applause. It’s not my habit to go out of the direction, but I’m glad I did it that day. It was a beautiful moment.

Is there a role you dream of and would like to play in the future?

Let me give you a short answer: every role. I dream of so many things and I want to play them all. I want to work with all the directors. I still have a lot of energy. I’m waiting for it to happen.

Do you have any other interests or interests besides acting? How do you spend a day?

Yes, I’m actually a curious person. I have a lot of interests. Currently, I spend the most time with sports. I do fitness, I run, I box, I do krav maga, and I do yoga. I am also very fond of cinema and literature. I am constantly working on writing a play. There’s a theater play we’re working on right now, and it’s going well. I also like to take photos. Apart from these, social media provokes all my curiosity. I am interested in nature, travel, sky, and geography.
